Dear Parents and Teachers:
Reading is the most important skill you can teach a child. Of all the skills children learn, it is the one you can influence the most.
We invite you to visit our Scholastic Book Fair and experience a celebration of reading that provides families the opportunity to get involved in a universal mission: encouraging kids to read every day so they can lead better lives.
Reading is vital to every child’s success, and raising kids as readers is getting involved while they’re young. Now is the time! Since there will never be a substitute for a parent’s direct involvement in his/her child’s education, please make plans to visit our Book Fair. Hope to see you there!

To Our P. S. 165 Community, Students, Parents and Teachers:
Thank you for the tremendous and overwhelming support you showed last school year for our Community Service Project. Thanks to your contributions of nonperishable food in cans, bags and boxes, we were able to donate 50 cases to each of our local food pantries, St. Nicholas of Tolentine and the Macedonian Church of downtown Flushing, where needy families are given nourishing relief.
After much discussion during the last several weeks; it has been decided that this Community Service Project will continue. The economy is very slowly improving and there are still many families in need of assistance from our own neighborhood.
Each month a different grade level will have the responsibility of bringing in non-perishable food products. If it is not your child’s grade level, they can still bring food in; it is always welcome. We will have a box in the front lobby by security, like last year. When any food is donated please make sure your child’s class is marked on it. Every class on the grade will receive an ice cream sundae party like last year; with the class that has the greatest amount of donations going first.
In today’s times, due to loss of jobs or a decrease in their family income, many families are doing without. Should any of our families have this experience, please know that these two food pantries are available.
As a school community we are here to help, our children as well as their families. Please continue to send in what you can throughout the school year. It teaches our children that too can make a difference in soneone else’s life.
